GUNC Stars Reach Field Guide

Stars Reach: Tools & field controls

Every tool has a specific job and its own controls. These pages explain what the equipment does in Stars Reach and where its related skills and recipes fit.

Wayfarers use specialized equipment for gathering, surveying, terrain work, building, camping, healing, and combat. Some tool abilities depend on learned skills or the Q and E choices set at a Loadout Kiosk.

Which tools work together

Terraformer, Depositor, ChronophaserExtract material, return it to the world, or transform terrain with heat, erosion, and lithification.
PathfinderLocate survey nodes, reveal terrain, and create local or ranged waypoints.
Harvester, Xyloslicer, TrowelWork with flora, timber, seeds, and planting without treating every plant as the same resource.
Fabricator, Instaformer, PaverUse building tiles with the Fabricator, blocks with the Instaformer, and Road Tiles with the Paver.
Trailblazer and Camp KitThe Trailblazer fires a flare, burns underbrush, and freezes liquids. A Camp Kit is the item that creates a temporary camp.
Weapons, shields, HealixCombine damage, defense, support, movement, and a loadout suited to the encounter.

Set up your controls in town

Find the important keys

Open Settings and check movement, interaction, Backpack, Map, tool actions, abilities, dodge, and chat.

Change awkward bindings now

If two actions are easy to confuse or a key is uncomfortable, fix it while you are somewhere safe.

Try each tool once

Put the tool in your hands, read its actions, and try the controls you expect to use.

Retest after a setup change

An update, reset, or different controller can change a familiar layout.

Give the Backpack a little order

Keep some empty space

Leave room for gathered materials, trades, and anything you pick up on the way.

Separate material stages

Deposits, ores, refined materials, components, and finished items can have similar names but different uses.

Set promised items aside

Keep commissions, rare PQRV finds, town stock, and GovBot donations away from everyday crafting piles.

Leave unneeded tools at home

A smaller kit is easier to search when you need something quickly.

Set up the toolbelt for this trip

Put the main tool in an easy slot

Use a place you can reach without searching the whole bar.

Carry a fallback

Depending on the trip, that may be a weapon, shield, Healix, medicine, or movement tool.

Hold the right item at a Loadout Kiosk

The Kiosk changes the Q and E abilities on the item currently in your hands.

Look over worn equipment too

Look at support gear, weapons, durability, and the actions assigned to them.

Pack for the trip

Pack food and medicine

Put emergency supplies where you can reach them without searching through the whole Backpack.

Try the important tools

Confirm their selected actions and targets before the route gets difficult.

Leave with usable gear and room

Bring a repair or replacement for anything the trip cannot continue without.

Read local messages

Homestead access, zoning, citizenship, and Servitor edicts can all matter where you are working.
