GUNC Stars Reach Field Guide

Stars Reach: Going out with a group

Plan Stars Reach group expeditions for Maker hunts, mining, surveying, GovBot work, and public builds with clear roles, camps, supplies, and recovery points.

Before you leave

Say what you're going out to do

Tell everyone whether this is a Maker hunt, a survey run, a mining trip, a build, or gathering for the next GovBot level. You can always chase interesting things along the way if the group wants to.

Pick a place to meet up

Choose a town, camp, portal, or landmark that is easy to find. If somebody dies or gets separated, that's where they should head.

Tell people about trouble on the route

Call out dangerous creatures, bad terrain, long travel, fire, restricted zones, and whether ReLife is nearby. That gives people a chance to grab medicine, food, or another tool before leaving.

Know when you're turning back

If the camp disappears, an important tool breaks, supplies run low, or the way home gets unsafe, turn around. You can fix the problem and try again.

Bring what the trip needs

One person keeps an eye on the route

Have somebody watch the map, remember landmarks, and point out hazards. They don't need a special title; they just need to know the way back.

Make sure somebody has the main tool

A mining trip needs a Terraformer. A survey run needs a Pathfinder. Check that the right player has the tool and skill before everyone crosses the planet.

Bring healing and a way back after death

Bring food, medicine, shields, or a Healix if the trip needs them. Know where the nearest ReLife point is, and don't leave the healer alone at the back with a pack of creatures.

Don't put every shared item on one person

Split up food, medicine, Repair Kits, and spare tools. If one person disconnects or heads home early, the rest of the group should still have the basics.

Be careful when changing terrain

Terraforming can make a ramp or fix a bad entrance, but it can also bury the way out. Look around before digging or depositing near the group.

While you're out there

Wait for people at landmarks

Stop now and then so the group can catch up. It's much easier than finding out ten minutes later that somebody took a different path.

Check gear before the risky part

Repair tools, eat, set your abilities, and make some inventory room before revealing a Maker or opening a deep mine.

Speak up early

Say something when your pack is full, a tool is almost broken, or you spot trouble. The group can deal with it before people get split up.

Regroup instead of running back alone

Meet at the camp (or other location) after a bad attempt. Replace what was lost, talk for a minute, and head back together if everybody wants another try.

Clean up before leaving

Hand back borrowed gear, split the haul, and fill any dangerous holes you made near a public route. If something dangerous is still there, tell the other players.

A few common group trips

For a Maker hunt

Scout the site, set up ReLife nearby, and make sure somebody can reveal the Maker. After the fight, check the area before everybody wanders off.

For a remote mine

Check the Terraformer for the material, bring Repair Kits, and leave inventory room for the haul. Dig a walkable entrance and don't dump tailings over it.

For the next GovBot level

Read the next-level requirements, set aside anything the town needs for crafting, and split up gathering and hauling. Check GovBot again after the level changes.

For a public build

Check zoning and permissions, put the building pieces near the site, and sort out the terrain. Walk through the entrances and paths before calling it open.
