GUNC Stars Reach Field Guide

Stars Reach: Your first missions after Haven

Pick a planet, take the jobs that fit your toolbelt, and learn the five mission types available from the Mission Board.

The Starbase Mission Board lets you choose a destination before you accept a job. Taking several mission types on the same planet makes a good first outing, and you can return to the Starbase when you are ready to spend your rewards.

Step-by-step field notes

What to do after Haven

Missions are an easy first trip because they pay Klaatu and send you to a planet. After that, open any choice below for a short explanation and its full guide.

Crafting

Make tools, building materials, components, and repair supplies.

Farming

Gather seeds, get a Trowel, plant a farm, and return to harvest it again.

Combat

Start with easier creatures, learn your weapon, and add support gear.

Mining

Prospect with the Terraformer, dig the deposit, and refine what you bring back.

Skills

Spend profession XP and Klaatu at a Skill Kiosk.

Camps

Save carried items, change your loadout, clear wounds, and set a closer Last Station.

GovBot

Join one planet, help fund its next level, and unlock town services.

Homestead

Learn Initial Homestead, buy a Homesteader, and claim a building area.

Building

Use a Fabricator for crafted pieces or an Instaformer for blocks.

NewsNet events

Follow a NewsNet alert to a timed boss fight, usually with a group.

Open the board

Walk to the Mission Boards at TPL Starbase and press G. Choose View Missions to open the planet list.

Choose a planet

The Starbase board can list several planets. Planet Mission Boards unlock at GovBot Level 2, but the town still has to buy and place one. A board on a planet only offers missions for that planet. If the names are new to you, pick one and treat the trip as a chance to look around.

Take a few jobs for the same planet

You can accept one mission of each type at the same time, but you cannot hold two Survey missions or two Kill missions at once. Taking several types for one planet saves a return trip to the board.

Check your toolbelt before leaving

Tools and weapons cannot be moved between your Backpack and toolbelt while you are out in the open. Make the change at a portal, camp, Homestead, or zoning lot before starting the trip.

Choose the mission you want to track

Press L, select a mission on the left, and choose Make Active. You may have several accepted missions, but only one waypoint is tracked at a time.

Find the yellow waypoint

Look around the Starbase until you see the yellow mission marker. Jump into open space and move toward it. If gravity catches you at the edge, press Space again to begin floating.

Fly through the portal gate

The gate may be a different color from the one pictured here. Fly through its center and it will bring you down to the planet.

Harvest mission

Enter the Mission Area, follow the waypoint to the marked plant, and hold Left MB with the Harvester until the job completes.

Survey mission

The waypoint only gets you near the survey node. Search the nearby ground with the Pathfinder, and turn back toward the marker if you get more than about 30 meters away. A node you surveyed earlier is green, but clicking it with Left MB still completes the mission.

Find mission

The waypoint follows the object, which is often buried a few meters down. Dig until it is exposed, press G on it, and choose Collect.

Kill mission

The creature appears when you enter the Mission Area, and the waypoint follows it. If you retreat beyond the area, it returns at full health.

Heal mission

Look for the injured creature named by the mission. The waypoint stays near the spawn point instead of following the creature, so check nearby creatures for the one at roughly half health.

Look for the return waypoint

After your last mission, the yellow marker points to the planet portal or whichever Mission Board was nearest when that mission completed. It does not switch later just because you walk closer to another board.

Abandon a mission you cannot finish

If a Find mission is buried in ground you cannot manage or a Kill mission is too difficult for the starter Pulsar, press L and abandon that job. You can take another mission later.

Spend what you earned when you are ready

Missions are an early way to earn Klaatu and profession XP. Take them to a Skill Kiosk when you want to learn something new.

Learn skills at the Skill Kiosk

Pressing K lets you look through the skill trees anywhere, but learning a skill requires a Skill Kiosk. The Starbase kiosk is near the theater.

Open the kiosk

Press G at the Skill Kiosk and choose Learn Skills. This opens the version of the skill screen that lets you train.
