GUNC Stars Reach Field Guide

Stars Reach: Field troubleshooting

Troubleshoot common Stars Reach problems with tools, recipes, kiosks, missions, inventory, repairs, and on-screen messages before changing your loadout.

Quick checks before you call it a bug

Start with the item, its selected action, your character, and the place where you're trying to use it.

Check what's in your hands

Put the intended item in your hands and check the actions it shows. Kiosks and ability changes apply to the held item, so this is easy to miss.

Check durability and battery

If current durability is 0, hold the tool or weapon and use a Repair Kit. Also check battery use, cooldowns, and active status effects.

Check the selected mode

Many tools have more than one mode or target. Re-select the desired material, ability, or placement action, then try it in a clear nearby area.

Check the local permissions

Town zoning, Homestead permissions, and citizenship rules can stop a tool action. A Servitor edict will not. If you go against the edict, Servitor drones will spawn and hunt you.

Change one thing and try again

If you change the tool, location, skills, and controls together, you won't know what fixed it. Change one thing, try again, then move to the next check.

Pathfinder and Terraformer checks

Stand still for a moment

Give the Pathfinder or Terraformer a moment to respond, then turn slowly. A distant signal points toward an area, so you may still have some searching to do.

Select the resource before scanning

Equip the Terraformer, press Tab, and select the target resource. The selected name appears near the tool display in the lower-right corner.

Move before scanning again

If the signal does not improve, move a good distance and scan again. Scanning from the same spot usually gives you the same result.

A full hopper can make you think something is broken.

Empty the Terraformer hopper and try again. Put the tailings somewhere they will not block an entrance, road, portal, or town service.

When loose ground keeps falling back in

If soil, sand, or silt keeps falling into the opening, stop digging upward and change the angle. If the area is difficult to reach safely, ask another player to approach it with a second Terraformer.

When the ingredients look right but nothing advances

The station matters as much as the ingredients

Check which current station the recipe names. The ingredients will not work at a different station.

Check what the recipe is asking for

Some recipes need a specific item, such as Amethyst. Others may ask for a Common Gemstone or allow any Gemstone. Keep an eye on the ingredients before you start crafting.

Ore, metal, alloy, and component are separate stages

A deposit, ore, refined metal, alloy, component, and finished tool are different items. Follow the chain one step at a time instead of assuming a nearby name is interchangeable.

Some recipes produce a whole batch

Check the quantity produced before repeating a craft. Some recipes make a batch, while others make one item.

Check why a skill is unavailable

If a skill is unavailable, inspect its prerequisites, XP and Klaatu cost, and the state of supporting skills. An Out of Practice skill may need reactivation rather than another purchase.

When an item, service, or payment seems to have vanished

Start with the service you used

Go back to the Vendor Kiosk for sale proceeds, or check the Homestead container or township service involved. For Bank items, open a Bank kiosk and look in the vault before reporting them missing.

Check ownership and access

Homestead editing, shared storage, listings, zoning, and civic services can depend on citizenship or permissions. Ask the owner or mayor which access rule applies.

The service may be unlocked but not placed

A civic service may not be unlocked yet, or it may be unlocked but not placed. A frontier camp may offer temporary support while the township develops.

Read the whole trade after anything changes

Before accepting, check the item name, quantity, PQRV, durability, and Klaatu shown by both players. Cancel and restart if anything changed.

Vendor proceeds may still be waiting at the kiosk

Return to the Vendor Kiosk and confirm whether completed-sale proceeds are waiting there. Do not assume every service delivers funds automatically.

  • Keep a simple note of which Homestead container or Vendor Kiosk holds important project stock.
  • Keep civic donations, sale stock, repair supplies, and rare crafting materials in separate containers.
  • When reporting a problem, include the item, world, service, action attempted, and exact message shown in game.
